Syngas
“Syngas” is short for ‘synthetic gas’, and is a term used to describe hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The UCG process converts coal to a gas comprising Syngas, methane, and carbon dioxide.
When this gas comes to surface, the carbon dioxide can be readily captured for safe storage and the hydrogen and Syngas can be utilised for a wide variety purposes including electricity, synthetic liquefied natural gas (SLNG), hydrogen fuel cells, transport fuels (high grade diesel, jet fuel) and chemical fertilisers.
