Underground Coal Gasification (UCG)

The concept of Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) has been promoted for nearly 100 years. It has had a mixed history, with the technology advancing.  

The technology has become significantly more attractive in the past five years as a result of directional drilling techniques – making the process more economically attractive.  There are currently three modern UCG projects taking place in Australia, with various other projects operating around the world.  

Liberty is a member of the UCG Partnership Advisory Council, an international not for profit organisation focussed on promoting UCG technology around the world.
